This memorial is to be found within Holyhead Museum and commemorates the loss of H.M. Submarine H5 in Caernarfon Bay. HMS H5, was a British H-class submarine of the Royal Navy. She was sunk after being rammed by the British merchantman Rutherglen, mistaken for a German U-boat, on 2 March 1918. All on board perished. The crew are commemorated on Panel 29 at Royal Navy Submarine Museum. The names listed below have been sorted into alphabetical order for ease of research and reading.

Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Ashmore, of 5, Humphriss St., Emscote, Warwick; husband of Lucy Sarah Ashmore, of 50, Spring Lane, Kenilworth, Warwickshire. No known grave. BURGESS Nathaniel Godon
Lieutenant, H.M. Submarine "H5", Royal Naval Reserve. Died 2 March 1918. Aged 28. Son of Nathaniel and Blanche Mary Fisher Burgess, of "Eddystone," Priory Rd., Newbury. Awarded the Croix de Guerre with Palm. No known grave. Commemorated on CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL, Kent. Panel 30.
CHILDS Earl Wayne Freed
[List ed as WEWF Childs on memorial] Lieutenant US Navy acting as Ensign, H.M. Submarine "H5", Royal Naval Reserve. Died 2 March 1918. Entered the Service from Pennsylvania. Awarded the Navy Cross. Assigned from from the American submarine AL-2 as an observer, he became the first US submariner to lose his life in the First World War. Commemorated on the tablet top the missing in BROOKWOOD AMERICAN CEMETERY, Brookwood, England.
