possibly Alfred Crisp, Rifleman 778 1st Bn., Rifle Brigade who died on Sunday, 15th November 1914. Commemorated on the PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL, Comines-Warneton, Hainaut, Belgium. Panel 10.

William Thomas HARD

2nd Lt. 3rd Battalion, London Regiment - Royal Fusiliers, Died Saturday, 23rd March 1918. Aged 32. Son of Mrs Anne Hard of Longstanton. Commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme.

Leonard Thomas JELLINGS

Pte. 2nd/6th Battalion, North Staffs Regiment, Died Tuesday, 9th April 1918 aged 24. Son of Joseph ad Clara Jennings of High St, Longstanton. Buried in Hamburg Cemetery. POW.

Ernest George NORTH

Lance Serjeant 13582, 11th Battalion, The Suffolk Regiment. Killed 1st July 1916, First day of the Somme Battle. Aged 29. Husband of Edith F. Purkis formerly North of Mill Hill, Swaffham Prior. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Also commemorated by two wonderful stained glass windows in Longstanton Church. See a picture via the Swavesey site.

Albert James PHILLIPS

Private 26873, C Company, 11th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Died on Saturday, 28th April 1917. Aged 25. For further details access the 11th Battalion, The Suffolk Regiment Resource Guide. Son of Mr & Mrs James Phillips of Brook Side, Longstanton. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial. Brother of Ernest - see below.

Ernest PHILLIPS

Private 11th Battalion, The Suffolk Regiment, died 15th March 1916. Aged 26. Brother of Albert - see above. Buried at Sailly-Sur-La-Lys-Canadian Cemetery.

William Anthony PHYPERS

Serjeant 2057 12th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. Died of wounds on Monday 17th July 1916, aged 31. Son of William and Mary Phypers of Cambridge. Husband of Audrey Phypers. Born Cambridge, enlisted Eastbourne. Buried at St Venant Communal Cametery.

Albert Bartingale RIGNALL

Second name Bartingale. Private 11th Battalion, The Suffolk Regiment, died on Saturday 28th April 1917, aged 25. Same date of death as Albert Phillips. Both were killed during a fruitless attack on the Chemical Works at Roeux, near Arras. Son of Honor Rignall of Longstanton and the late John Rignall. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
