The memorial hall is located in High Street, Swavesey. It was first opened 15 May 1924 by the Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire (and Isle of Ely). It is a brick-built Memorial Hall with a wall mounted, framed and glazed Roll of Honour document inside the building. [Listed as BEAUMENT on memorial] Private 23370, "E" Company, 7th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Missing, believed killed in action 24 April 1915. Aged 28. Born 16 August 1886 in Swavesey. Son of Charlotte Ann Beaumont, of Swavesey, Cambridgeshire, England, and the late Henry Beaumont. His brother George Beaumont (M.C.) also fell (see below). Carpenter by trade. Unmarried. Attested 18 September 1914 in Valcartier, Quebec, Canada, aged 28 years 1 month, height 5 feet 7½ inches, chest 35¼-36½ inches, fair complexion, grey blue eyes, auburn hair, religious denomination Church of England. [Listed as BEAUMENT on memorial] Captain, 6th Battalion attached 13th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment. Killed in action 9 April 1918. Aged 29. Son of Charlotte Ann Beaumont, of Swavesey, Cambridge, and the late Henry Beaumont. A Civil Servant (Customs and Excise, later War Trade Dept.). His brother Henry Beaumont also fell (see above). Awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) for devotion to duty and gallant conduct. No known grave. Commemorated on PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL, Hainaut, Belgium. Panel 6.

Born and resident Swavesey, enlisted Cambridge. Son of the late Thomas Coulson; husband of Nellie Coulson, of Lyndhurst Cottage, Swavesey, Cambs. Born Swavesey, enlisted Hammersmith, Middlesex, resident Notting Hill, Middlesex.Son of Mrs. Hannah Ding; husband of Florence Alice Ding, of 9, Wharf Rd., Latimer Rd., Notting Hill, London. Acting Lance Corporal 400988, 2nd Battalion, Essex Regiment formerly 7456, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 15 August 1918. Aged 32. Born Swavesey, enlisted Huntingdon, resident Coventry. Son of John and Sophia Dodson, of 15, Crown Walk, St. Ives, Hunts; husband of Ada Dodson, of 28, Bowling Green St., Warwick. No known grave. Commemorated on LOOS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Private 16374, 11th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Missing, believed killed in action 1 July 1916. Aged 39. Born Swavesey, enlisted Cambridge. Son of Charles and Charlotte Dodson, of 9, High St., Swavesey, Cambridge; husband of Ann Thorp Dodson, of 54, Appleford Rd., North Kensington, London. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 1 C and 2 A.

From Andy Pay's research into the Marquis de Ruvigny' s Roll of Honour, Volume 2, Part 3, Page 81, the following:

Private J. DODSON, number 16374 (Service) Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Son of Charles Dodson by his wife,Charlotte, daughter of Charles W Thurbon. Born Swavesy 12 February 1877 , educated there . Was a bricklayer. Enlisted voluntarily 9 November 1914, went to France 9 January 1915 and was killed in action 1 July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme.

Buried on the battlefield. He married at Swavesy 24 May 1898 Ann Thorp daughter of Charles William Thurlow and had nine children , Jonas Albert born 1 June 1903, Charles William born 2 August 1906, George Cecil born 8 September 1907, Jack born 5 September 1909, Gladys Edith born 31 January 1900, Charlotte Ellen born 7 August 1901, Bertha Ann born 7 August 1904, Clara born 2 february 1912 and Beatrice Mary born 22 April 1914.
