Boatswain (Bosun), M.V. Neptunian (Newcastle-on-Tyne). Merchant Navy. Died 7 September 1940. Aged 52. Son of John and Eliza Abell. No known grave. Commemorated on TOWER HILL MEMORIAL, London. Panel 72.

Lieutenant, 7th (1st Battalion, The London Rifle Brigade) Battalion, Rifle Brigade. Died 22 July 1942. Aged 22. Son of Capt. John Tillie Coryton and Dorothy Coryton, of St. Mellion, Cornwall. Buried in EL ALAMEIN WAR CEMETERY, Egypt. Plot XIII. Row B. Grave 14.

DEACON

William John

Aircraftsman 1st Class 548711, 153 Maintenance Unit, Royal Air Force. Was taken prisoner by the Japanese on 7 March 1942 when Java fell, and died of acute enteritis at Paginatan during a forced march from Sandakan to Ranau, Borneo, 15 February 1945; originally based at Kuala Lumpur, Malaya. Aged 25. Son of Hedley and Elsie Deacon of St. Stephens, Saltash, Cornwall. In the 1921 census he was living with his uncle and aunt, William and Florence Cox, aged 1, born Cornwall, son of Hedley and Elsie Deacon, resident Stockdon, Stockadon, St Mellion, Landulph, Cornwall. No known grave. Commemorated on SINGAPORE MEMORIAL, Singapore. Column 454.

DEACON William John of Paynters Cross St. Mellion Cornwall died 15 February 1945 on war service. Administration Bodmin 2 April to Hedley James John Deacon farm labourer. Effects 38 12s. 4d.
