DRONFIELD WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Detailed Information

The memorial was originally sited at the White Swan Public House, Chesterfield Road, Dronfield but was later moved into the Public Library garden, Public Library, High Sreett, Dronfield. It takes the form of a plain figure of a soldier, at ease, with right leg resting on a tree stump and hands resting on the muzzle of a bronze rifle, standing on a square plinth and octagonal three stepped base. There are 74 names llsited for World War 1 and 28 names for World War 2. The mason was George Platts and the artist Joseph Syddall; the memorial was unveiled 29 October 1922 by Brigadier General H L Alexander, C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O. and dedicated by Rev. G. J. Johnson, Rev. W. T. Groocock, B.A., Rev. W. J. Palmer.
