[Listed as HINCHLIFFE on CWGC other Nottinghamshire County Council documents give his name as Hinchliffe and this is the spelling on his Army Service Record] Sergeant 295272, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died of wounds 25th March 1918. Aged 28. Born Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, enlisted Mansfield 1915, resident Pleasley Hill. Son of Joseph and Ellen Hinchliffe, of Pleasley, Mansfield; husband of Alice May Hinchliffe, of Scarcliffe, Chesterfield. Police constable with Nottinghamshire Constabulary. Formerly 5432, 148th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Buried in ABBEVILLE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Somme, France. Plot I. Row C. Grave 27. His name is on a memorial to employees of Nottinghamshire County Council who died in WWI and on this his name is also given as Hinchcliffe. |
