(SON OF MAJOR-GENERAL CAMERON, C.B.) BORN 7TH MARCH 1865, AT POONAH EAST INDIA
LIEUTEANT, CAMERON HIGHLANDERS, WHO FELL IN ACTION
WHILST ENGAGED WITH HIS REGIMENT IN AN ATTACK ON THE VILLAGE OF ABSARI,
OCCUPIED BY THE DERVISHES IN FRONT OF THE PORT OF KOSHEH ON THE UPPER NILE
IN THE SOUDAN 16TH DECEMBER 1885. HE DIED OF HIS WOUNDS
THREE DAYS AFTERWARDS IN KOSHEH FORT, OUTSIDE OF WHICH HE IS BURIED.
THIS TABLET IS ERECTED BY HIS LATE COMRADES
THE OFFICERS OF THE AMERON HIGHLANDERS
IN AFFECTIONATE REMEMBRANCE OF HIN AND AS A TOKEN OF THEIR REGARD AND
ESTEEM FOR HIS GALLANT AND SOLDIERLY CONDUCT IN THE FIELD
AND OF THEIR EXTREME SORROW AT THE LOSS THAT
THEY HAVE SUSTAINED BY HIS DEATH
