The Dumbarton
Boer War memorial can be found outside the Municipal Buildings, Garshake
Road, Dumbarton in College Park. It takes the form of a red granite
Ionic cross with celtic decorations, on a grey granite base. There
are 12 names that are engraved on polished surface of base with surname.
forename or initial, rank and Regiment. The memorial was unveiled
on 9th October 1904 by the Lord Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire. The
memorial was erected due to public subscription and cost £130.
The sculptor was Mr J Gilfillan. Details can be found in The Lennox
Herald 15th October 1904. Although the names are by rank on the memorial
they have been sorted into alphabetical order here for ease of reading
and research.
