BARMPTON, GREAT BURDON & HAUGHTON LE SKERNE WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial is situated at Haughton Le Skerne, which is to the north east of Darlington centre. It is at the junction of Haughton Road (B6279) and Salter’s Lane South. It can be found within St Andrew's churchyard in a triangular flower bed. It is in the form of a sandstone circular cross on tapering shaft mounted on a two-stepped plinth. The memorial has eighteen names from World War inscribed on it by surname, forename, rank and Regiment. The memorial was unveiled by Colonel G. O. Spence on 7th October 1920.

Born Scruton, Bedale, enlisted Stockton on Tees, resident Houghton Le Skerne. Son of Elizabeth Bamlett, of The Poplars Haughton-Le-Skerne, Darlington, and the late Thomas Bamlett. No known grave. Commemorated on TYNE COT MEMORIAL. Panel 128 to 131 and 162 and 162A.
