Within Cockfield Methodist Chapel there is a brass plaque affixed to a backing board containing the names of the men from the church who gave their lives in the First World War.

DOWSON	John George	Private 51598, 1st Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. Killed in action 11 September 1918. Born Butterknowle, Durham, enlisted Sunderland, resident Cockfield. GARGETT	George [O]	Private 35331, 12th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. Died 16 June 1917. Aged 21. Enlisted Felling-on-Tyne.
