CHINGFORD WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Martin Edwards 2008

The Chingford war memorial is situated at the junction of The Ridgeway and Kings Head Hill. It takes the form of a Celtic cross on a tapered shaft mounted on a plinth with a two-stepped base. The whole stands on a paved area surrounded by a chain link fence. There are 242 names for World War 1 but none for World War 2 just a dedication. It was unveiled 24th September 1921 by Lord Lamborne and dedicated by the Bishop of Chelmsford. The names here were transcribed from a series of photographs which were not very clear and undoubtedly errors exist in the transcription. Further details can be found on the Chingford War Memorial web site.
