LITTLE YELDHAM WAR MEMORIAL

The Little Yeldham memorials can be found in St John the Baptist Church, Mashbury Road, Little Yeldham.The First World War memorial has a backbaord of stone upon which is mounted a cast iron plaque with the inscription and names in relief. There are 9 names listed for those who gave their lives and 39 more names of those who served and returned. There is a brass plaque with a wooden backboard to the one man who died in World War 2. There is a further plaque to a man who died in World War 1.

William Ewer
Trooper, 1st Essex Yeomanry. Killed in action at the 2nd Battle of Ypres, Belgium, 13 May France 1915. Aged 32. Elder son of Wiliam Canning and Charlotte Mary Gardiner of Upper Yeldham Hall.

WILLIAM CANNING AND CHARLOTTE MARY GARDINER
OF UPPER YELDHAM HALL,
WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR AT THE 2ND BATTLE OF YPRES, BELGIUM,
ON MAY 13TH 1915 AGE 32 YEARS.
HE NOBLY GAVE HIS LIFE FOR KING AND COUNTRY
WHEN THE ESSEX YEOMANRY MADE THEIR GALLANT CHARGE.
