Private 18016, 16th Battalion, Welch Regiment. Killed in action on 11 November 1917 at the Battle of Passchendaele - the 3rd Battle of Ypres after his Battalion was moved to Armentieres. Born and enlisted Swansea. Son of Sarah Gordon, of 2, Ivor Place, Sketty, Swansea, and the late George Gordon, who had four sons who fought in World War 1; brother of William (below); husband of Ida Eugene Gordon, of 12 Grove Place, Swansea. In the 1901 census he was aged 11, born Swansea, son of the widowed Sarah Gordon, resident, with his brother William, at 18, Roseland Terrace, Sketty, Cockett, Swansea, Glamorganshire. Married Ida Eugene Edwards in Swansea 2 December 1908, resident 13 Bathurst Street, Swansea. In the 1911 census he was aged 20, born Swansea, married to Ida Eugene, a Domestic Gardener Servant, resident with his in-laws at 13 Bathurst Street, Swansea, Glamorganshire. Attested and posted 30 November 1914 at Swansea, for 3 years or the duration of the war, as Private 18016, 16th (Service) Battalion, Welsh Regiment, aged 24 years 10 months, born Swansea, resident 13 Bathurst Street, Swansea, Cellarman by trade, married with two children released for munition work 14 December 1915, rejoined 13 April 1916, B.E.F. France 17 May 1916, height 5 feet 8½ inches, weight 140 lbs, chest 35½ inches, religious denomination Wesleyan. Buried in CITE BONJEAN MILITARY CEMETERY, ARMENTIERES, Nord, France. PLot VIII. Row D. Grave 39.

Private 1666, 3rd Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment (Territorial Force). Killed in action on 8th May 1915 at the First Battle of Ypres. Aged 26.Born Sketty, Swansea, Glam., enlisted Cambridge. Son of Sarah Gordon, of 2, Ivor Place, Sketty, Swansea, and the late George Gordon, who had four sons who fought in World War 1; brother of Sidney (above). In the 1901 census he was aged 12, born Swansea, son of the widowed Sarah Gordon, resident, with his brother Sidney, at 18, Roseland Terrace, Sketty, Cockett, Swansea, Glamorganshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 22, married to Florance (sic), born Brynmill, Swansea, a Mason's Labourer, resident Bay View Place Sketty, Cockett, Glamorganshire. No known grave. Commemorated on YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 50.
