SURRETT

Henry James

Gunner 291650, 129th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Killed in action 5th July 1917 [memorial states 4th]. Aged 26. Born and resident Highbury, Middlesex, enlisted Gloucester. Son of Henry and Florence Surrett, of Highbury, London. Although he was originally from Middlesex, he was the local policeman for Wick. He is on the Gloucestershire Constabulary memorial and the Force history shows him as having been stationed at Wick before he voluntarily enlisted in May 1915. Buried in FERME-OLIVIER CEMETERY, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot 3. Row G. Grave 15.
