ROWLANDS CASTLE WAR MEMORIAL

The Rowlands Castle war memorial is to be found at the junction of the B2148 and B2149 Whicher's Gate, outside St John the Baptist Churchyard. It is an obelisk like memorial mmeorial mounted on a plinth with tablets attached to the sides of the plinth. There are 29 names for World War 1 and 18 for World War 2. It was first unveiled by Admiral O'Callaghan and dedicated by the Bishop Suffragan of Southampton 2nd November 1919. It cost £245 0s 0d and was built by Mr Wilkin. A further memorial commemorates 22nd May 1944 when His Majesty King George VI reviewed and bade God Speed to his troops about to embark for the invasion and Liberation of Europe.

The Memorial is situated on the B2149 Manor Lodge road that runs from Rowlands Castle to Horndean. It is approx 500 yards from the main Village war memorial.
