There are 26 names listed, most appear on the main memorial. The names here have been sorted into alphabetical order for ease of reading and research. Private 23641, 5th Battalion [CWGC states Depot], Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Royal Berkshire Regiment). Died of wounds 16 June 1917. Aged 23. Born Bordean, Hampshire, resident Gosport, Hampshire, enlisted Portsmouth. Son of Arthur and Stella Annie Adams, of Hook Warsash. Buried North-West of church in HOOK (ST. MARY) CHURCHYARD, Hampshire. BABEY [Robert] Charles
Trimmer, H.M.H.S. "Britannic" (Liverpool), Mercantile Marine. Missing supposed drowned when his ship was sunk 21 November 1916. Aged 24. Son of the late Robert Charles Babey and of Elizabeth Babey, of Hook Lane, Warsash, Southampton. In the 1911 census he was aged 19, born Warsash, a Farm Labourer, son of Robert and Elizabeth Babey, brother of Frederick (below), resident Hook Lane, Warsash Heights, Hook with Warsash, Hampshire. Stoker 1st Class K/23785, H.M.S. "Edgar," Royal Navy. Died from dysentery 8 January 1917. Aged 20. Born 3 June 1896 in Hook, Hants. Son of the late Robert Babey and of Elizabeth Babey, of Hook Lane, Warsash, Southampton. In the 1911 census he was aged 14, born Warsash, son of Robert and Elizabeth Babey, brother of Robert Charles (above), resident Hook Lane, Warsash Heights, Hook with Warsash, Hampshire. Enlisted 8 January 1915 for 12 years, formerly a Farm Hand, height 5 feet 8½ inches, chest 35½ inches, brown hair, hazel eyes, fresh complexion. Buried in EAST MUDROS MILITARY CEMETERY, Greece. Air Mechanic 1st Class F/988, H.M.S. "Espiegle," Royal Naval Air Service. Accidentall drowned in the Shatt Al Arab River 24 February 1916. Born 4 December 1893 in Portsmouth, Hants. Baptised 15 January 1894 in Portsea, All Saints, son of William and Alice Careless, resident 106, Oxford Street, Portsea, Hampshire. In the 1901 census he was aged 8, born Portsmouth, Hampshire, son of John William and Alice Careless, resident 91, Oxford Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 17, born Portsmouth, Hants, a Domestic Gardener, son of Alice Careless (a widow), resident 4 Daisy Bank Cottages, Newtown Road, Warsash, Hook with Warsash, Hampshire. Enlisted 16 November 1914 for the period of hostilities, formerly a Gardener, height 5 feet 8 inches, chest 34 inches, light hair, greyish blue eyes, fresh complexion. In the 1911 census he was aged 16, born Farham, Hampshire, a General Labourer Fruit Grocers, a boarder with Walter T and Lydia Emery, resident 8, Fleet End Terrace, Warsash Southampton, Hook with Warsash, Hampshire. Attested 11 November 1912 in Gosport as 8444, 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards, aged 18 years 6 months, born St peters, Fareham, Hants, a Farm Labourer by trade, single, height 6 feet ½ inches, weight 138 lbs, chest 37-41 inches, fresh complexion, dark grey eyes, brown hair, religious denomination Church of England. Transferred 3rd Battalion 22 May 1915, transferred back to 2nd Battalion 26 April 1916. Served in France 5 October 1914 to 22 May 1915 and 26 April 1916 until his death. Next of kin listed as Miss M. A. Emery, St. Georges, Warsash, Southampton. Originally enlisted for 3 years and 9 years Reserve. Suffered with bronshitis during 1915. Buried in DUHALLOW A.D.S. CEMETERY, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Extract from De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour 1914-1918, Volume 1, page 163:

GRIFFITHS, ALLEN RHYS, 2nd Lieut., 53rd Battery, R.F.A., elder s. of Llewellyn Edward Griffiths, of Great Abshot House, Titchfleld, formerly of Drayton Park, Longparish, by his wife, Bertha Mina, dau. of Thomas Allen Hickley, of Walton-on-Thames; b. Rookley House, King's Somborne, Hants, 15 March, 1893: educ. Horris Hill, Newbury ; and Winchester College ; was a tea planter in Ceylon when war broke out, but came home immediately and enlisted in the Rifle Brigade in Dec. 1914 ; was given a commission, being gazetted 2nd Lieut. R.F.A. 27 Feb., 1915 ; went to France early in July, and was killed in action near Ypres, 9 Aug. 1915 ; unm.

Battlefield Cross in Wivelsfield Church, Sussex reads:

"The above cross marked the grave of Sec. Lt. Allen Rhys Griffiths RFA who was killed in action nr Hooge Flanders August 9th 1915 aged 22"
