WONSTON WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Detailed Information
Compiled and copyright © Martin Edwards 2006
John Elliott

The Wonston War memorial is in the form of two stone tablets, one above the other, World War 1 then World War 2, in the parish church of Holy Trinity, Wonston. See also Paul Goodwin's UK Memorial web site for more photographs. The World War One memorial to the men of Wonston parish is a stone plaque in Holy Trinity church, Wonston. The memorial was erected in 1920 and a crucifix placed over it in 1921. A second memorial plaque was added below the first to commemorate the men who died in World War Two.

Wonston parish includes Sutton Scotney and most of these men, although not all, are also commemorated on the Sutton Scotney memorial and a further four are recorded on a small plaque in St James’ church, Hunton. The Sutton Scotney memorial also records other men who are not on the Wonston memorial. The memorial includes 49 of the 59 Sutton Scotney names.
