Memorial is in ground of St Michael and All Saints Church, Sunnyside, Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire. It stands in front of a yew tree and has become badly weathered making it very, very hard to read. The list of names has been supplied by the Rev. David Abbott.

Private.2nd WELSH REGIMENT. Enlisted with the BEDFORDSHIRE REGT. Killed in action at Le Cateau on 22nd October 1918 age 18 husband of Emily. Formerly employed at Cooper's HIGHLAND CEMETERY.
HARDWICK-TERRY Leonard Alfred
CAPTAIN ROYAL FLYING CORPS. Joined The INNS of Court and served in EGYPT in the signalling service with the ANZACS. Came home and joined the RFC. He flew to Berkhamstead Christmas 1916 and landed in Kitchener’s field. Promoted to Flight Commander and a Captaincy and flew many times over German lines. Accidentally killed in France 31st August 1917 when his plane lost a wing and crashed from1.500 feet. Age 21. Son of Edward and Emily of Boxwell Road. Educated at Berkhamstead School and was the first schoolboy to install a wireless apparatus at home. Formerly employed with a ship building firm in Scotland. AVELUY COMMUNAL CEMETERY.
HEMELEY Gordon Victor
Private. 6th ROYAL BERKSHIRE REGT. enlisted with the HERTFORDSHIRE REGT. Killed in action during the battle of the Somme 29th September 1916 born Berkhamstead. ( surname recorded as HEMLEY on Hemel Hempstead war memorial). THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
