  The cross on the top of the memorial looks a little like a spinning propeller. The memorial covers World War 1 only and lists the names and location of death. The latter being somewhat unusual.

Private 14499, 9th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment. Killed in action 3rd May 1917 in France. Age 27. Born and resident Elton, enlisted Oakham, Rutland. Son of John and Mary Barnard, of Middle St., Elton, Peterborough. Commemorated on Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. Bay 5.

Bernard Henry

Private 14974. 7th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. Killed in action at Loos Monday, 27th September 1915. Age 21. Son of John Henry and Matilda Bodger of Elton, Peterborough. Commemorated on the Loos Memorial.

Lieutenant. Quartermaster 4th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action at Henin-Sur-Cojeul Sunday, 1st September 1918. Age 38. Son of William and Anne Brawn. The School House, Elton. Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM). Buried St. Martin-sur-Cojeul British Cemetery, Pas de Calais.

Lance Corporal 14530, 6th Battalion, Northants Regiment. Killed in action on the Somme, Saturday 1st July 1916. Age 21. Born Witham, Lincolnshire, enlisted Northampton. Son of George Clement and Kate Mary Charman of Ashlands, Elton. Commemorated on Thiepval Memorial.

[Frank] Franklin

[Also spelt Frank Franklyn Green.] Private 1889, 1st/4th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action Wednesday, 13th October 1915 in France. Born and resident Elton, enlisted Stamford. Commemorated on the Loos Memorial.

Private 202660, 7th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Died of wounds 10th June 1917 at Fontaines-Les-Croiselles. Born and resident Elton, enlisted Peterborough. Buried in Achiet-le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France. Grave I. J. 20.

Cambrai probably Private 268720, 12th Battalion, King's (Liverpool Regiment). Killed in action 20th November 1917 at Cambrai. Born Gidding, enlisted Godmanchester, resident Offord Cluney. Formerly 18328, Bedfordshire Yeomanry. Commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Nord, France. Panel 4

Private 10061 1st Bn Northants Regiment. Died of wounds at Millencourt, Sunday, 10th September 1916. Age 21. Born Woodford, Northants, enlisted Northampton. Son of Charlotte and the late George Hilliard of Elton. Buried Millencourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France. Also listed on the Woodford memorial.

Private 35608 8th Battalion, Kings Shropshire Light Infantry. Killed in action at Salonika Wednesday, 11th September 1918. Age 24. Born and resident Elton, enlisted Peterborough. Son of William Eayrs Hilliard of Park Lane, Elton. Formerly T/1/4100, Royal Army Service Corps. Commemorated on the Doiran Memorial, Greece.

Driver 177518. "A" Battery, 223rd Brigade. Royal Field Artillery. Died of wounds at Varennes Monday, 9th September 1918. Age 39. Born Warmwell, Dorset, enlisted Oundle, Northamptonshire. Son of Henry and Mary Hillier of Lower Canterton, Nr Lyndhurst. Husband of Alice E.P.Hillier, of The Crown Inn, Elton. Buried Varennes Military Cemetery, Somme, France.

Private 45635, 15th (Hampshire Yeomanry) Service Battalion, The Hampshire Regiment. Killed in action 9th August 1918 in France. Age 19. Born and resident Elton, enlisted Rugby. Son of George Hodge, of Chapel Lane, Elton, Peterborough. Commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 88 to 90 and 162.

Stoker 2nd Class K/21974. H.M.S. Good Hope, Royal Navy. Died Sunday, 1st November 1914 at Coronel. Age 23. Son of Margeret Hodson, Station Road, Elton and the late Richard Hodson. Commemorated on Portsmouth Naval Memorial.

Private 15100, 11th Battalion, Essex Regiment. Killed in action at Loos Sunday, 26th September 1915. Age 29. Born Chesterton, Hunts, resident and enlisted Peterborough. Son of Joseph and Emma Jordan, of Highgate, Elton, Peterborough. Commemorated on the Loos Memorial.

Private G/6059, 2nd Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. Killed in action 2nd March 1916 at Loos. Age 31. Born Glapthorne, Northants, enlisted Peterborough. Son of Alfred William and Mary Ann Kirby, of Glapthorne, Peterborough, Northants. Buried in Dud Corner Cemetery, Loos, Pas de Calais, France. Grave I. B. 5.

Lance Corporal 16377 2nd Battalion Leicestershire Regiment. Died of wounds in the Persian Gulf (Mesopotamia) Sunday, 18th February 1917. Age 29. Born and enlisted Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, resident Oakham, Rutlandshire. Son of T.Meadwell of Elton. Husband of Charlotte Meadwell of Elton. Buried at Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.

Leading Stoker K/8583, Queen Mary, Royal Navy. Died at the Battle of Jutland Wednesday, 31st May 1916. Commemorated on Portsmouth Naval Memorial.

Corporal 60548, 9th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. Killed in action at Aveluy Wood Wednesday, 27th March 1918. Born Elton, enlisted and resident Peterborough. Formerly 3369, 24th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment. Commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.

Private 30829, 4th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Died of wounds at Duisans Tuesday, 15th May 1917, aged 37. Born and resident Elton, enlisted Peterborough. Husband of Mary E. Scotney of High St, Elton. Buried at Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, Pas de Calais.
