This
memorial takes the form of a lych gate at the entrance to St Bartholomew's
Church, Church Street, Great Gransden. The lych gate has a tiled roof
amd stone pillars with a dedicatory tablet inset. There are tablets
for both World War 1 (19 names) and World War 2 (4 names). Them memorial
was unveiled in 1920.

the men of this Parish who fell in the Great War of 1914 – 1919

1525, 17th Battalion, Australian Infantry, A.I.F. Killed in action
at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli 27 August 1915. Aged 31. Born Great Gransden
Educated at National School, Great Gransden. Son of Rebecca Chaplin,
of Great Gransden. Emigrated, aged 26, for a better life to Australia
in 1914, and volunteered to fight for 'the old country'. No known
grave. Commemorated on Lone Pine Memorial, Turkey (including Gallipoli).
