War 1& 2 - Detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Les Horn 2016
The
village of Kinlochleven lies at the eastern end of Loch Leven, and is
near the borders of both Argyllshire and Invernessshire, Scotland, 5
miles north-east of Invercoe. The village was formed from two previously
separate small communities - Kinlochmore to the north of the River Leven
in Inverness-shire and Kinlochbeg to the south of the Leven in Argyll
- following the construction of an aluminium smelter and associated
housing for its employees. The memorial is to be found in the Main Street,
Kinlochleven, Lochaber and takes the form of a Celtic cross set on a
tapering blockwork plinth with decoration on the front of the cross
and a plaque on 12 o'clock face. There are 41 names for World War 1
and twenty-two for World War 2. The memorial covers the Invernessshire
parishes of Ballachulish & Corran of Ardgour and the Argyllshire
parishes of Lismore & Appin.
Please
note that the names have been sorted into alphabetical
order within conflict here for ease of research and reading.
