MEERS Henry William Hugh
[Listed a HWJ MEERS on memorial, MEERES on SDGW and CWGC] L/Corporal, 2146, 2nd London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers). Killed in action 19-03-15. Enlisted London. Husband of Mrs. E. Meeres, Eastry Vicarage, Eastry. Buried in Ferme Buterne Military Cemetery, Grave A.26.
MILLER G. L.
Lieutenant, Godfrey Lyall Miller, 11th Field Co. Royal Engineers. Killed in action 14-09-14, aged 21. Son of Sir John O. Miller, K.C.S.I., and Lady Miller, 6, Sussex Place, Hyde Park, London. Born Cawnpore, India. Godfrey Miller was brought up by Sir James and Katherine Lyall who lived at Statenborough House in Eastry. Sir James was his mother Mary Eveline's uncle. Godfrey's father Sir John Ontario Miller was a Indian Civil servant. Godfrey's father privately published a his son's diary after his death. There is a mention in it of being at Eastry in 1902. Buried in Vailly British Cemetery, Grave II.C.18.

Believed to be: Lieutenant, Leonard Jack Morgan, 4th The Buffs, East Kent Regiment. Killed in action 01-12-17, aged 33. Son of Edward Walter and Minnie Morgan, The White Bungalow, London Road, Deal, Kent. Buried in Fins New British Cemetery, Sorel-Le-Grand, Grave II.D.05.

Able Seaman, RFR/CH/B/6596, Royal Navy. HMS ‘Cressy’. Killed in action 22-09-14, aged 34. Son of William Setterfield, Ham, Eastry, Kent; husband of Mrs. Alice Setterfield, 2, Church Street, Eastry, Kent. Commemorated on Chatham Naval Memorial, Panel 01. (NB: HMS Cressy, HMS Aboukir and HMS Hogue were all sunk in the same action by the German U-Boat U9).

Believed to be: L/Corporal, G/6278, Arthur Henry Tookey, 6th The Buffs, East Kent Regiment. Killed in action 04-08-16. Born Deal, enlisted Dover. Commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, Panel 5D.

Believed to be: Leading Seaman, 227159, Robert Edmund Tritton, HMS Aboukir. Killed in action 22-09-14. Commemorated on Chatham Naval Memorial, Panel 01. (NB: HMS Cressy, HMS Aboukir and HMS Hogue were all sunk in the same action by the German U-Boat U9).
Between the Wars:
POINTER F. T.
Killed 09-06-1931. *HMS Poseidon - On 9 June 1931 ‘HMS Poseidon’ was exercising in the Yellow Sea (20 miles north of her home base of Wei Hai Wei) when the steamer Yuta was spotted some distance away. Despite excellent visibility the two vessels collided and the submarine sank in about 15 fathoms within two minutes.
