The Shottenden parish war memorial is in the form of an unusual home made plaque constructed from oak and pine. It originally hung in the former Shottenden Methodist Church but in February 2005 was found in the Chilham parish church for safekeeping. Although not an attractive or particularly well made memorial, it is an original parish tribute and warrants proper care and protection. It would be a disgrace if this very unusual tribute were lost or thrown away!

CLOVER	Ernest Charles W	Corporal 19373, 2nd Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment. Died Tuesday 29th October 1918 aged 25 years. Born Chilham. Enlisted Canterbury. Resided Chilham. Son of Mr and Mrs William Clover of Vernon Cottages, Shottenden, Canterbury. Buried locally in the Chilham (St Mary) Churchyard, Chilham, Kent. Grave reference - North West Corner.
CREED	Bertie Frank	Sergeant 3247, 9th Battalion, Rifle Brigade. Died Thursday 3rd May 1917. Born Wye. Enlisted Canterbury. Resided Chilham. Bertie has no known grave. His name appears on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France. Panel reference Bay 9.
FOX	Henry	Private G/4998, 1st Battalion, Queen’s Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). Died 5th May 1915 aged 27 years. Born Badlesmere. Enlisted Faversham. Son of Mr Fox of Shottenden, Chilham, Kent. Henry has no known grave. His name appears on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Leper, Belgium. Panel reference 45 and 47.
HARRIS	Charles Alfred	Stoker 1st Class, H.M.S “Racoon”, Royal Navy (R.N). Died Wednesday 9th January 1918 aged 33 years. Son of Alfred Thomas and Mary Ann Harris of Shottenden. Buried Rathmullan (St Columb) Churchyard, County Donegal, Ireland.
MOON	William Ernest	Lance Corporal G/50943, 17th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment. Died Tuesday 4th December 1917. Born Chilham. Enlisted Canterbury. Resided London. Husband of Rose Moon of 17 Welstead Road, East Ham, London. Buried in the St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France. Grave reference P.V.G.5B.
MOOR	Lionel William	Gunner 207938, C Battery, 95th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery (RFA). Died Friday 11th October 1918 aged 27 years. Enlisted Woolwich, London. Resided Challock. Son of George and Sarah Ann Moor of Upchurch, Kent. Buried in the Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, France. Grave reference VIII.K.35.
WRAIGHT	John William	Private TR/10/161482, 53rd (Graduated) (Young Soldiers) Battalion, The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey Regiment). Formerly 10th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. Died Friday 8th November 1918. Born Sheldwich, Faversham. Enlisted Canterbury. Resided Shottenden near Chilham. Buried locally in the Chilham (St Mary) Churchyard, Chilham, Kent. Grave reference North West Corner.
