BURBAGE WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Detailed Information
Compiled and Copyright © Martin Edwards 2014

The Burbage War Memorial stands in a small, gated, memorial garden in Church Street, Burbage, alongside the B578 running through the centre of the village. It takes the form of an unusual looking infantryman with rifle reversed, head bowed, with a high cap and small moustache; this rests on a square pedestal and two-stepped base. The memorial is made from Italian marble. Monies to erect the memorial were raised by public subscription. It was dedicated by Rev. R D H Pughe and unveiled by Lieutenant Colonel C F Jones on Saturday 26 February 1921. There are 60 names for World War 1 and 31 for World War 2. The names here have been sorted into alphabetical order within their sections for ease of research and reading.
