Born 1868, bpt 20 February 1868 Belchford, son of Francis and Martha (née Coney) Burgess of Belchford. Husband of Margaret (née Bills) Burgess of 118 St Michael's St, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts. Father of George, Martha Jane, Alexander, Alice, David & Margaret. Previous service 1885-1897 with Lincolnshire Regiment in Ireland, India, Singapore. Pre-war occupation waggoner on farm. Buried in Grave A.J.1218, Sutton-in-Ashfield Cemetery.

Private 70083, 1st Bn. Cheshire Regiment. Killed in action 23 October 1918, age 27. Born 1891 Humby, Lincs, son of William & the late Sarah (née Baxter) Carter; husband of Mabel (née Strawson) Carter, of Hawthorn Cottage, Belchford. Pre-war occupation waggoner on farm. Born 1898 Dalby, nr Spilsby, Lincs, son of Edward and Jane Elizabeth (née Shaw) Dixon, of Hagworthingham, Spilsby. Buried in St Peter and St Paul Churchyard, Belchford.

Aircraftman 1st Class 927590, 108 Sqdn. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Died of wounds following enemy air raid on his base in Egypt, 12 June 1942, age 21. Born 1921 Belchford, son of Walter and Mabel (née Parkin) Brader of Belchford. Buried in Grave XVIII. G. 23, El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.

Rifleman 3252550, 1st Bn. Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). Reported missing 19 April 1942.believed to have died of wounds, Burma, age 22. Born 1920 Horncastle, Lincs, son of Edward and Mary Alice Kate (née Jacklin) Littleworth of Belchford. Commemorated at Face 10, Rangoon Memorial, Myanmar.
ROWLETT Frank
Able Seaman C/JX 279122, H.M. Submarine Tigris, Royal Navy. Reported missing 10 March 1943, when Tigris failed to return to port; presumed killed in action 27 February 1942 when submarine believed to have been sunk by German submarine chaser UJ 2210. Born 25.1.1923, son of Arthur Benjamin and Ivy Emily (Gerty) (née Des Forges) Rowlett, of Belchford. Commemorated at69, 3.Chatham Naval Memorial.
