GREAT STEEPING WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial for Great Steeping is to be found within the grounds of St. Andrew church. It takes the form of a Cavalry cross mounted on a long shaft atop aplinth with a single-steeped base. There is also a list of men who served in World War 1.

Balderstone on CWGC/no trace SDGW. Possibly George Balderston, born c 1887 the son of William and Ann Balderston. Private 22618. 4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died 15th April 1918. Commemorated Ploegsteert Memorial. Panel 3.

Carrott on CWGC/SDGW. Private 27084. 2nd Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, formerly 5044 Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 5th December 1916 (1917 on memorial). Born Thorpe St Peter, enlisted Spilsby and resident Huttoft, Lincs. Commemorated Beaumont-Hamel British Cemetery. B.15.
