HECKINGTON WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and Copyright © Michael Peck 2007

The war village memorials is to be found in Heckington at the corner of Church Street and High Street. It takes the form of a Celtic cross with a dedication and names on the plinth which stands on a three-stepped base. The Second World War dedication is on the upper step of the base. There are names on brass plaques fixed to the memorial itself. The whole monument is surrounded by railings. There are 31 names for World War 1 and 12 for World War 2. Within the parish church of St Andrew is a dedicated stained glass window to those who died in the First World War and a plaque resides below it for those who died in the Second World War. The same names appear on the exterior and interior memorials, there is some debate about SHINN or SWINN on the World War 1 memorial.

Remember also those who fell in the Second World War 1939 - 1945.

Those whom this window commemorates were numbered among
those who at the call of King and Country left all that was dear to
them, endured hardship, faced danger and finally passed out of the
sight of men by the path of duty and self sacrifice, giving up their
own lives that others might live in freedom. Let those who come
after see to it that their names be not forgotten.
