Stoker 1st Class SS/117420, HMS Nubian, Royal Navy. Died 27th October 1916. Aged 20. Son of William Lee Smith and Mary Ann Smith, of "Wold View," Tetney Lane, Holton-le-Clay, Grimsby. Buried in ST ANDREW CHURCHYARD, KIRKBY-CUM-OSGODBY, Lincolnshire.

Sergeant 19195, 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 23rd October 1915 in France & Flanders. Aged 20. Born and resident Osgodby, enlisted Lincoln. Son of Wilson & Sarah Jane Codd of Osgodby. Buried in BANCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Grave IV. L. 15.

Private 95727, 5th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. Died at home 6th July 1918. Aged 18. Born and resident Osgodby, enlisted Lincoln. Son of Wilson & Sarah Jane Codd, Market Rasen. Buried in ST ANDREW CHURCHYARD, KIRKBY-CUM-OSGODBY, Lincolnshire.

Private, 13548, 6th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 9th August 1915 at Gallipoli. Aged 23. Born Kirkby-cum-Osgodby, enlisted Grimsby. Son of George and Alice Eaton, of Kirkby-cum-Osgodby, Lincs. Commemorated on HELLES MEMORIAL, Turkey. Panel 44 to 46 or 331.

Private TR/5/15420, 15th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. Died at home 2nd March 1917. Aged 18. Born Kirkby-cum-Osgodby, enlisted Louth. Son of George & Betsy Atkinson Osgodby. Buried in ST ANDREW CHURCHYARD, KIRKBY-CUM-OSGODBY, Lincolnshire.

Private 41103, 1st/5th, Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Died of wounds 5th May 1918 in France & Flanders. Aged 28. Born Cannock, Staffordshire, enlisted Market rasen, Lincolnshire, resident Hillsborough, Sheffield. Son of Reuben and Martha Elizabeth Cox, of 94, Middlewood Rd., Hillsborough, Sheffield. Buried in BAGNEUX BRITISH CEMETERY, GEZAINCOURT, Somme France. Grave I. G. 28.

Private 11033, 6th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds 18th September 1915 at Gallipoli. Aged 30. Born King's Cliffe, Northamptonshire, enlisted Scunthorpe, resident Osgodby. Son of John Rhodes of Osgodby. Buried at PIETA MILITARY CEMETERY, Malta. Grave B. XII. 2.

Private 544, 10th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 1st July 1916 in France & Flanders. Aged unknown. Born Hull, enlisted Grimsby, resident Osgodby. Son of unknown. Commemorate on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme France. Pier and Face 1 C.

WILKINSON

Charles Henry

Gunner, 74867, "P" Anti-Aircraft Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Killed in action 13th May 1917 in France & Flanders. Aged 26. Born Osgodby, enlisted Scunthorpe. Husband of Alice Wilkinson, of Rectory Cottage, West Rasen, Market Rasen. Buried at PERONNE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION , Somme, France. Grave II. B. 45.

For some reason the following men was not placed on the memorial, despite having attended the village school and having lived in the village before 1914 while Joseph Wm Smith's claim to fame would seem to rest on his sister being assistant school mistress at the village school.

Son of the late Joseph and Charlotte Alltoft. Served in the South African Campaign. Commemorated on PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL, Comines-Warneton, Hainaut, Belgium. Panel 3.
