LITTLE CARLTON WAR MEMORIALS

World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

The memorial is to be found at the junction lof Great Carlton Road and Legbourne Road, Little carlton. It takes the form of a Celtic cross with a shaft set on top of a tapering plinth with a square base; the whole memorial is surrounded by wrought iron railings with shrubs. There are 17 names for World War 1 and one for World War 2. Within the church are two brass plaques, one for World War 1 containing 5 names and a second with one name for World War 2. Those markedare on the church memorial as well as the external memorial, the other men probably served and returned.

Private 2240, 8th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died 23 April 1918 [church memorial states 28 April]. Aged 25. Son of Charles Parish. Resident Homefield Farm, Little Carlton. In the 1901 census he was aged 8, born Manby, Lincolnshre, son of Charles and Annie Parish, resident Carlton Road, Little Carlton, Louth, Lincolnshire. No known grave. Private 43058, 7th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment formerly 2044, Suffolk Regiment. Killed in action 9 August 1917 [church memorial states 7 August.] Enlisted Louth. In the 1901 census he was aged 6, born Little Carlton, son of George Croft and Sophia Pinder, resident Carlton Road, Little Carlton, Louth, Lincolnshire; brother of William Henry Pinder (below). In the 1911 census he was aged 16, born Little Carlton, a Farmer's Son working on farm, son of George Croft and Sophia Pinder, resident Little Carlton near Louth, Lincolnshire; brother of William Henry Pinder (below).
