and Copyright © Michael Peck 2009
There are two memorials in Long Sutton, one external and the other internal.
The external memorial stands in the village and takes the form of an
obelisk of pink granite surorunded by a circular flower bed. There are
92 names for World War 1, 16 for World War 2 and one for a conflict
after the Second World War in 1963. This memorial was originally unveiled
11th November 1920. The second is within the parish church of St Mary
at the north-west end of the church between the two north windows of
the bapistry. There are 83 names for World War 1, unlike the exterior
memorial which has 92, and 16 for World War 2. The church World War
1 memorial was unveiled by the Dean of Lincoln 1st June 1920; the design
was created locally and the memorial manufactured by Messrs. A R. Mowbray
& Co. Ltd.
