NORTH THORESBY WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial is to be found in the grounds of St Helens Church, North Thoresby and takes the form of a Celtic cross on a three stepped plinth. The Second World War inscription is on the lower part of the cross where is meets the base. The First World War inscription is split between the steps of the plinth. The memorial stands on a shallow rectangular base.

BROWN	Thomas Sidney	Private 5135. 2/5th Battalion, West Riding Regiment. Killed in France 17th February 1917, aged 26 years. Son of Jabez and Ruth Brown of Walnut Cottage, North Thoresby, Lincs. Enlisted Lincoln, resident North Thoresby, Lincs. Commemorated THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. Pier and Face 6A and 6B.

DE HOUGHTON	Vere	Captain (Adj). 5th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action between 11th and 13th October 1915. Commemorated LOOS MEMORIAL. Panel 31 to 34.
DICKINSON	George Sidney	Captain. 7th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 2nd July 1916. Commemorated PERONNE ROAD CEMETERY, Maricourt. III.B.25.
GRANTHAM	George Henry	Private 24/1677. 24th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. Died 1st July 1916, aged 18 years. Son of George Grantham of New Farm, Marshchapel, Lincs. Born North Thoresby, enlisted Grimsby, Lincs. Commemorated THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. Pier and Face 10B, 11B and 12B.
HEWSON	Charles	Private 22801. C Coy, 7th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds 24th April 1917, wounds received in France on 23rd April 1917. Age 37 years on headstone, 36 on CWGC. Son of Henry and Ann Hewson, brother of T Hewson of North Thoresby, Lincs. Born North Thoresby, enlisted Louth and resident North Thoresby, Lincs. Commemorated DUISANS BRITISH CEMETERY, Etrun. III.D.11.

MILSON	George	Riflemen 3733. 8th Battalion, London Regiment. Died of wounds at home on 21st October 1916 on headstone, 22nd October on CWGC. Age 26 years. Son of (the late) Mr and Mrs Milson of Binbrook, husband of Ada Graves (formerly Milson) of North Thoresby, Lincs. Enlisted London and resident North Thoresby, Lincs. Commemorated NORTH THORESBY (St Helen) CHURCHYARD.
MORLEY	George	Private 2601. Leicestershire Yeomanry. Killed in action 13th May 1915, aged 29 years. Son of Mr G and Mrs F.N Morley of North Thoresby, Lincs. Born Grimsby, Lincs, enlisted Melton Mowbray, Leics and resident North Thoresby, Lincs. Commemorated YPRES (Menin Gate) MEMORIAL. Panel 5.

ROBERTS	William Henry	Private 108430. 21st Battalion, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), formerly 318160 Royal Army Service Corps. Died of wounds 25th April 1918, aged 19 years. Son of John Henry and Mary Blenkam Roberts of North Thoresby, Lincs. Born North Thoresby, enlisted Louth and resident North Thoresby, Lincs. Commemorated MENDINGHEM MILITARY CEMETERY. X.C.8.
