War Memorial at St. Germain’s Church, Scothern, Lincolnshire. There is a memorial to those who died in World War 1 and several other memorium items but no World War 2 memorial.

Gunner 53496, Royal Horse Artillery (Base detail Indian Army) Died 17th September 1918. Aged 27. Son of Walter Henry & Charlotte Allmond of London. Born in Lincoln and enlisted in London. Regular Artilleryman. Enlisted in the Royal Horse Artillery in 1908. Served in India (Delhi Durbar 1911) Buried in St. Marie Cemetery Le Havre

DODSWORTH

George

Private 874772, 27th Battalion, The Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment) 2nd Canadian Division. Killed in action near Passchendaele 6th November 1917. Aged 23. Son of Joseph & Mary Elizabeth Dodsworth of Lade Bank, Wrangle, Boston. Born in Fiskerton. Native of Scothern. Commemorated on The Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium (Canadian Section)

Private TF/242193, 2nd/5th Battalion The Lincolnshire Regiment 59th Division. Killed in action 11th April 1917. Aged 29. Son of Henry & Mary Anne Harding (later Wattam) of Scothern Enlisted in Lincoln. Resident of Scothern. Commemorated on The Thiepval Memorial.

Private 7538, 2nd Battalion, The Lincolnshire Regiment 8th Division. Killed in action near Fleurbaix 2nd February 1915. Aged 18. Son of Mr & Mrs James Simon of North Willingham Born in Scothern and enlisted in Lincoln. Buried in Rue Petillon Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix. [Listed as W Simon in Newspaper - Circa 1915, Private, 2nd Battalion, Lincolsnhire Regiment. Killed in action 2nd February near Le Bassée]

Private 65769, Number 206 Company, The Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). Died of wounds 14th May 1917. Formerly with the Lincolnshire Regiment. Born in Scothern and enlisted in Scunthorpe, resident of Scothern Buried in Grevillers British Cemetery.

Prvate G/15325, 13th Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment. 39th. Division. Killed in actrion near Ypres 1st March 1917. Enlisted in Lincoln. Resident of Scothern. Buried in Railway Dugouts Burial Ground, Ypres, Belgium.

Private 9802, 2nd Battalion, The Lincolnshire Regiment. 8th. Division Killed in action on the Somme 23rd October 1916. Aged 20. Born in Baumber and enlisted in Lincoln. Resident of Scothern. Commemorated on The Thiepval Memorial.

Inside the church is a framed glazed document as follows, an adjacent newspaper cutting gives details of the men serving at the time (which judging by content was sometime in 1915).
