SNARFORD WAR MEMORIAL

Within the church of St Lawrence, Snarford there is a white stone plaque with black lettering on the wall of the nave to F W Graham and C Toyne who died while serving and below this on a hand written framed glazed document is the Roll of Honour for the village. Five sons of the late rector of the parish were killed during the war out of seven who served. Note: The nearby Hackthorn and Welton War Memorials both also include the name Charles Toyne. The five Beechey’s are on the main Lincon War Memorial.

Son of the late Reverend Prince William Thomas Beechey, once rector of the parish, and Mrs Amy Beechey of 197 Wragby Road, Lincoln; brother to the other Beechey's named on this memorial. No known grave. Commemorated on PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL, Comines-Warneton, Hainaut, Belgium. Panel 3. See also Lincoln All Saints, Lincoln and Friesthorpe.

[Spelt BEECHY on SDGW] Private 58708, 25th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. Died of wounds in East Africa 20th October 1917. Aged 39. Born Pinchbeck, enlistd and resident Stamford. Son of the late Reverend Prince William Thomas Beechey, once rector of the parish, and Mrs Amy Beechey of 197 Wragby Road, Lincoln; brother to the other Beechey's named on this memorial. Formerly 4532, Durham Light Infantry. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 14 A and 14 B.

[Spelt TOYN on CWGC or SDGW] Private 13492, 6th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action at Gallipoli 7 August 1915. Aged 21. Born and resident Snarford, Lincs, enlisted Lincoln. Son of Luke & Elizabeth Toyn of Snarford. No known grave. Commemorated on HELLES MEMORIAL, Turkey (including Gallipoli). Panel 44 to 46.
