The war memorial is in the form of two stone tablets placed on either side of the interior walls of the lych gate leading to St Mary the Virgin Parish Church. The lychgate has a gabled, tiled roof with two stone tablets placed on the inner walls of the pillars either side of the gate; the tablet inscriptions and names for World War 1 and World War 2 are incised. There are 26 names for World War 1 and 5 for World War 2. The memorial was first unveiled 31 July 1921 attended by Mr William Stapleton Royce MP JP, Revd John Langley MA, Canon Frederick William Hutchison MA, and parishioners.

Classified category B2 and transferred to 477 Agricultural Company, Labour Corps on 8 January 1917. Discharged 18 March 1918, no longer fit (tubercule of lung). Husband of Florence May Cooper (married 18 February 1915 at Holbeach Register Office). Died 18 April 1918.

News of Tydd Gote
Soldier

News has been received that L/Sergt. Edward W. Cox, Royal Armoured Corps, only son of Mrs. Cox and of the late Mr. R. Cox, of Sunpatch, Tydd Gote, has been reported missing while fighting in 'Normandy.

L/ Sergt. Cox, who has been in the Army since the outbreak of War, is 25 years of age and was a member of the same tank crew as Trooper M. E. Cook, son of Mr. and Mrs. A, Cook, of 10, Artillery-street, Wisbech, who is also missing.

After receiving his education a Gorefield School, L/Sergt. Co-worked for the late Mr. W. S. Hoyle at Ferry Farm, Newton.

Ordinary Seaman C/JX405101, H.M.S. Boadicea, Royal Navy. Presumed dead 13 June 1944. Aged 19. Son of Arthur Edward & Grace Fox, Tydd St Mary. No known grave. Commemorated on Chatham Naval Memorial, Kent.

Mrs. G. Fox, of 3, Council House, Church-lane, Tydd St. Mary, has heard that her 19-year-old son, Ord. Seaman Victor Arthur Fox, formerly reported missing, is now presumed to have been killed on June 13th, during operations connected with the liberation of Europe.

Ord. Seaman Fox was formerly employed by Mr. R Flint, butcher, of Tydd. A keen sportsman, he was particularly fond of football, cricket and swimming and he was very much liked by all who knew him.

Killed in action flying out of Protville II, Tunisia, in a Bristol beaufighter TFX, serial number LX796, when his aircraft was shot down during a torpedo attack on a convoy off the east coast of Sardinia 11 July 1943. Aged 30. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (D.F.C.). Son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Taylor; husband of Joy L. Taylor, of Alverstoke, Hampshire. No known grave. Commemorated on Malta Memorial, Malta.
