The
Wellingore war memorial is to be found in the churchyard of All Saints,
Wellingore. It takes the form of a Cornish granite square wheel cross
on a tapering shaft atop a tapering plinth on a concrete plinth. There
are 16 names for World War 1 and 4 for World War 2. The memorial was
dedicated and unveiled in 1920 at a cost of £130 raised by public
subscription; the builder was Mr Fred Clarke.

Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. Died from wounds received in France
17 June 1922. Aged 25. In the 1921 Electoral Register he was resident
Wellingpore, son of Rev. Herbert and Evelen Powel-Smith. Admitted
to Queen Alexandra's Military Hospital at Millbank 9th July 1916
with gun shot wounds to left forearm, discharged 20th July 1916.
Admitted to Queen Alexandra's Military Hospital at Millbank with
Paraplegia, discharged 23rd July 1918, aged 21, transferred to hospital
ship Empire 11 December 1917. Admitted to Queen Alexandra's Military
Hospital at Millbank with gun shot wounds to the spine 12 August
1919, aged 23, discharged to disability leave 12th October 1919.
Buried on the south side of the church in WELLINGORE (ALL SAINTS)
CHURCHYARD, Lincolnshire.

C.
Powell-Smith. Capt. Cyril Powell-Smith, Durham Light Infantry, younger
son of the Rev. M. Powell-Smith, vicar of Wellingore, and formerly
rector Ruskington, near Sleaford, has been dangerously wounded in
the spine during recent operations in Flanders. The officer was
badly wounded in the arm while fighting on the Somme in July, 1916.
