Rifleman 3896, Lewis Gun Section, 5th Platoon, "B" Company, 1st/16th (County of London) Battalion (Queen's Westminster Rifles), London Regiment. Missing in action at Gommecourt, Somme, listed as killed in action 1 July 1916. Aged 27. Born Hammersmith, resident Ealing, enlisted Westminster. Son of Mrs. Susan Hinds of 3, Queens Rd. Ealing, Middlesex, and the late William Hinds. In the 1891 census he was aged 1, born Middlesex, resident with his parents, William and Susan M Hinds, in Broadway Buildings, King Street, Hammersmith, Fulham, London. In the 1901 census he was aged 11, born Hammersmith, Middlesex, resident with his parents, William and Susan M Hinds, at 220, Goldhawk Road, Hammersmith, Fulham, London. In the 1911 census he was aged 21, born Hammersmith, London, a Retail Jeweller, resident with his parents, William and Susan Hinds, at 8, Corfton Road, Ealing, Middlesex. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 13 C.
