ST PANCRAS SOUTH AFRICAN (BOER) WAR MEMORIAL

South African (Boer) War 1899-1902 - Detailed information

The South African (Boer) War memorial is to be found in the vestibule of St Pancras Church, Euston Road, Camden. It takes the form of a rectangular metal plaque mounted in wooden frame with an incised inscription in versal lettering. There are 14 names listed.

Be not unmindful, we pray you, of these your fellow parishioners,

died in the South African War. 1899-1902.

BROOKS William George
Private 11759, 11 Bearer Company, Royal Army Medical Corps, served with 19 Field Hospital, Royal Army Medical Corps. Aged 23. Died of disease on 2 February 1902 at Elandsfontein
BURKE Edward Francis
Private 2227, 2nd Battaliion, East Surrey Regiment. Aged 35. Killed on 14 June 1900 at Alleman Nek.
CHISHOLM Colin
Private 3774, 2nd Battaliion, Grenadier Guards. Aged 25. Killed on 29 May 1900 at Biddulphs Berg (Senekal).
CLEEVE Alfred Frederick
[Listed as CLEAVE in records] Private 389, 18th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers served with City of London Imperial Volunteers. Aged 22. Died of Enteric on 22 August 1900 at Springfontein.
CROXFORD Charles
Private 6319, 2nd Battalion, South Wales Borderers. Aged 21. Died Enteric on 16 January 1901 at Kroonstad.
DONOVAN Thomas Henry
Private 35223, 31 (Montgomeryshire) Company, 9 Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry. Aged 16 (18 in records). Died of disease on 31 October 1901 at Heilbron.
HANSON Samuel
[Memorial states 7th Battalion] Private 9135, 5th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) attached to 2nd Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). Aged 24. Wounded on 24 February 1900 at Ladysmith. Died of Enteric on 6 April 1900 at Mooi River.
HOLMAN George Leonard
Gunner 29830, "M" Battery, Royal Horse Artillery. Aged 19. Died from wounds on 14 October 1900 at Pretoria.
LEVITT Arthur
Private 4081, 2nd Battaliion, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment). Aged 23. Died of wounds on 27 January 1900 at Mount Alice (Natal).
MORSE George
2nd Battalion, Royal West Surrey Regiment. Aged 33. Died. Cannot trace any further details currently.
MORTON Edward Thomas
Driver 9903, Army Service Corps attached to 2 Local Ammunition Column, Royal Field Artillery. Aged 26. Died of disease on 26 January 1901 at Middelburg.
PRIOR William
Dublin Fusiliers. No further information currently.
SHIPLEY John James
Private 3344, 2nd Battaliion, Northumberland Fusiliers. Aged 25. Died of disease on 26 July 1900 at Bloemfontein.
WILLSON Thomas
[Listed as WILSON in records] Private 4107, 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers). Aged 22. Died of disease on 30 May 1901 at Germiston.
