The monument is fairly new, and stands at the end of the pedestrianised part of the town centre taking the form of a Celtic Cross made of Welsh slate. It stands atop a double-step plinth, with the names of the fallen being written around the upper step. On it are recorded 13 names from the First World War and a further 12 from the Second World War.

PROBABLY an incorrect initial for Stanley John Spencer M.M., Private, 17th Battalion, the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Died 2nd September 1918. Son of Agnes Mary Spencer, of 3, Church Rd., Caldicot, nr. Newport, Mon. Buried at Varennes Military Cemetery, nr Albert, Somme, France.
