St MELLONS WW1 AND WW2 MEMORIAL

The monument is on road junction of the main A48 Newport - Cardiff road in the village of St Mellons. Caerwent. It takes the form of a square obelisk mounted on a three step plinth, all surrounded by low metal railings. On each face, there are the names of two military campaigns in the top panel: France - Italy - Gallipoli - Salonika - Mesopatamia - Palestine - E. Africa - W. Africa. The names are recorded on metal panels affixed to the stone: 23 from the First World War and 12 from the Second World War.
