FAKENHAM WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2- Detailed Information

The War Memorial is in the form of a stone cross in the Market Place and has a four-stepped octagonal base surmounted by octagonal plinth with a tapering shaft and cross. The inscription is to be found on the sides of the plinth and the steps; there are names and initials only, sectioned by year and repeated in the church. Some of the dates are incorrect.There is also a brass memorial in the Parish Church of St. Peter & St Paul. In total there are 96 names for World War 1 and 24 for World War 2. The memorial originally cost £600 and was unveiled on 2nd August 1921. The architect was Mr H H Plamer, the mason Edgar Rush and Mr F Harrison.
