Private 24917. 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment. Died of wounds in France & Flanders on 25th August 1916. Aged 40. Born Itteringham. Enlisted Epping, Essex. Son of Eliza Ayton, of Itteringham, Norfolk. Buried: Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Ref. X. A. 4A.

Private 29277. 2nd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action in France & Flanders on 12th October 1916. Aged 40. Born and lived Itteringham. Enlisted Norwich. Son of Henry and Kate Ayton, of Itteringham, Norfolk. Buried: Warlencourt British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Ref. V. B. 32.

Leslie William Walter

Serjeant 30035. Royal Garrison Artillery. Died at home on 26th July 1916. Aged 25. Born Calthorpe. Enlisted Aylsham. Buried: Itteringham (St. Mary) Churchyard, In South-East corner.

Private 29062. 2nd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action in France & Flanders on 7th June 1917. Aged 32. Born and lived Itteringham. Enlisted Norwich. Son of Mary Ann Jickells (formerly Harmer) and Robert Jickells (stepfather), of 25, Itteringham, Aylsham, Norwich. Commemorated: Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Ref. Panel 31 and 33.

HANNANT

George

Private 3032083. 43rd Battalion Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment). Died on 1st October 1918. Aged 25. Private Hannant was born on 27th April 1893, the son of James Fredrick and Emma Hannant, of Mossymere, Itteringham, Norwich, England. In Canada, George Hannant lived at Claremont, Ontario, where he was a farmer. His religion was Baptist. He joined the Canadian Army in Toronto on 5th January 1918. Buried: Cantimpre Canadian Cemetery, Sailly, Nord, France. Ref. D. 28.

JOHNSON

Alfred

Private 50126. 9th Battalion Royal Fusiliers. Died on 3rd May 1917. Aged 32. Son of Mrs. Betsy Johnson, of Itteringham, Norwich. Commemorated: Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. Bay 3. (Despite extensive searching on the Soldiers Died CD, there appears to be no record of this soldier.)

Herbert John

Private G/9087. 6th Battalion The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment). Killed in action in France & Flanders on 17th July 1917. Born and lived Itteringham. Enlisted Cromer. Commemorated: Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. Bay 2.

Private 17249. 3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards. Died of wounds in France & Flanders on 9th December 1917. Aged 23. Born Itteringham. Lived North Walsham. Enlisted Sheffield. Son of H. and L. A. Williamson, of Mundesley Rd., North Walsham, Norfolk. Native of Itteringham, Aylsham, Norfolk. Buried: Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Ref. XXXI. C. 24.
