The Kenninghall memorials are located within St Mary's Church, Church Street, Kenninghall, Norfolk. The World War 1 memorial is in the form of a red marble nowy-headed tablet bearing the inscription, names and musical notes of the "Fall In" bugle call. There are eighteen names listed with initial, surname and unit served with. Below the World War 1 plaque is a further framed stone plaque with the lettering engraved and highlighted in black listing seven names from World War 2. For ease of research the names have been sorted into alphabetical order within conflict and not as listed on the memorials.

[Listed as BARRATT on memorial] Private 3/10813, 8th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Killed in action 11 August 1917. Aged 31. Born 16 December 1885 in Kenninghall, Norfolk, enlisted Norwich. Baptised 15 October 1891, in East Harling, Norwich, son of George and Emma Jane Edwards Barrett. Husband of Edith Maria (nee Leist) Bocking (formerly Barrett), of 47, Market Hill, Maldon, Essex, married October to December Quarter 1912 in Wayland Registration District, Norfolk. In the 1911 census he was the aged 26, born Kenninghall, Norfolk, son of Emma Jane Rolfe (a widow), he was a Labourer on Farm, resident The Heath, Kenninghall, Norfolk. In the 1915 Electoral Register he was resident The Heath, Kenninghall, Norfolk. No known grave. Commemorated on YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 4.
BILHAM William Arthur
Private 14383, 9th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Killed in action 20 November 1917. Aged 28. Born 14 November 1889 in Kenninghall, Norfolk, enlisted Norwich. Baptised 1 October 1893 in Kenninghall, Norwich, Norfolk. Son of John and Sarah Jane Bilham, of The Market Place, Kenninghall, Attleborough, Norfolk. In the 1891 census he was the son of John and Sarah J Bilham, aged 1, born Kenninghall, Norfolk, resident Market Place, Kenninghall, Guiltcross, Norfolk. In the 1901 census he was aged 11, born Kenninghal., Norfolk, son of John R W and Sarah Jane Bilham, resident Banham Road, Kenninghall, Guiltcross, Norfolk. In the 1911 he was aged 21, born Kenninghall, an Iron Moulder, lodging at Banham Road, Kenninghall, Norfolk. Buried in RIBECOURT BRITISH CEMETERY, Nord, France. Plot I. Row B. Grave 9.

Baptised 15 October 1893 in Kenninghall, Norwich, Norfolk, son of John and Elizabeth Claxton. In the 1911 census he was aged 18, born Kenninghall, Norfolk, son of John and Elizabeth Claxton, a Carpenter and Joiner Improver, resident Red Lion Inn, Kenninghall, Norfolk. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 7 D and 8 D.
CUNNINGHAM Lennox

Rifleman 701967, 23rd (County of London) Battalion, London Regiment serving in 2nd/21st Battalion, London Regiment. Killed in action in Egyptian Theatre 13 December 1917. Born Essex, resident Windsor, enlisted Clapham Junction. Son of John and Caroline Cunningham, residents of "White Horse," Kenninghall, Thetford, Norfolk. Husband of Emily Elizabeth (nee Wickson) Cunningham, married 11 June 1915 in Marylebone Registry Office, London, resident 19 Chester Mews, North Belgravia, London, S.W. then 10 Oxford Mews, Paddington, London W.2. Enlisted 11 December 1915 in Windsor, Berkshire, aged 25 years 11 months, an Indoor Servant, married, address St. Leonards, Windsor, height 5 feet 8½ inches, weight 140lbs, chest 35 inches. Served in United Kingdom 8 April 1916 to 23 January 1917, then in British Salonica 24 January 1917 to 17 June 1917, then with Egyptian Expeditionary Force 18 June 1917 to 13 December 1917. Buried in JERUSALEM WAR CEMETERY, Israel and Palestine (including Gaza). Plot/Section P. Grave 80.

Private 20551, 1st Battalion [memorial states 3rd], Essex Regiment formerly 17865, Norfolk Regiment. Died at sea 13 August 1915. Born East Harling, Norfolk, resident Kenninghall, Norfolk, enlisted Norwich. No known grave. Commemorated on HELLES MEMORIAL, Turkey (including Gallipoli). Panel 146 to 151 or 229 to 233.
FENN William Alfred
[Listed as 5th Battalion on memorial] Private G/48667, 2nd/10th Battalion, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment). Killed in action in Egypt 3 November 1917. Aged 42. Born Kenninghall, Norfolk, resident Richmond, Surrey, enlisted Eastbourne, Sussex. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Fenn; husband of Ethel May Fenn, of 78, Diana Rd., Walthamstow, London. In the 1911 census he wasm aged 30, born Kenninghall, Norfolk, married to Ethel May Fenn with a son and a daughter, a Horsekeeper, resident 4 Martins Cottages, Richmond, Surrey. No known grave. Commemorated on JERUSALEM MEMORIAL, Israel and Palestine (including Gaza). Panels 41 and 42.

[Spelt FRANCES on SDGW] Private 3/10058, 9th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Killed in action 15 September 1916. Born 20 August 1888 in Quidenham, Norfolk, enlisted Norwich, Norfolk. Baptised 8 May 1892 in Quidenham, Norfolk, son of James and Rebecca Francis. Brother of Edward (above). In the 1901 census he was aged 9, born Quidenham, Norfolk, son of Rebecca Francis (a widow), resident East Church Street, Kenninghall, Norfolk. In the 1911 census he was aged 19, born Quidenham, Norfolk, son of Rebecca Francis (a widow), a Blacksmith Striker, resident East Church Street, Kenninghall, Norfolk. Enlisted 10 December 1915, aged 23 years 9 months, a Baker by trade, height 5 feet 4½ inches, weight 118lbs, chest 31-33½ inches. To Reserve 11 December 1915, mobilized 11 April 1916, posted to 12th Battalion, |Royal West Kent Regiment 13 April 1916, transferred 11th Battalion 1 September 1916. Embarked for France 6 September 1916, joined 11th Battalion 18 September 1916. His medals were sent to Rebecca Francis, of Church Street, Kenninghall, Norfolk. Buried in WARLENCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Plot V. Row C. Grave 36.

Bombardier 74430, "A" Battery, Royal Field Artillery. Killed in action 24 April 1917. Aged 24. Resident Kenninghall, Norfolk, enlisted Norwich. Died of wounds 15 April 1917. Born 8 JUne 1892 in Battersea, Middlesex, resident Kenninghall, enlisted Bury St. Edmunds. Baptised 14 August 1892 in Horsford, Norfolk. Son of Thomas Fulcher, of Whitegate Farm, Ludham, Great Yarmouth, and the late Mrs. Martha Fulcher. No known grave. Commemorated on ARRAS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Bay 1.
MITSON George William
Private PLY/316S, H.M.S. Indefatigable, Royal Marine Light Infantry. Killed in action when his ship was lost at the Battle of Jutland 31 May 1916. Aged 30. Born 27 September 1886 in Kenninghall, Norfolk.Baptised 29 November 1885in Kenninghall, Norfolk. Son of the late Alfred and Mary Ann Mitson, of Lopham Road, Kenninghall, Attleborough, Norfolk; brother of Mrs Laud H. Reddings, of North Topham Road, Kenninghall, Norfolk. Enlisted 21 September 1914 in Birmingham aged 27 years 11 months and 25 days, a Maltster by trade, religious denomination Church of England, height 5 feet 5¾ inches, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair. In the 1901 census he was aged 15, born Kenninghal, Norfolk, grandson of Robert and Maria Nolleth, an Agricultural Labourer, resident The Heath, Kenninghall, Guiltcross, Norfolk. No known grave. WELLS Cecil John

Private 16869, 7th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Killed in action 13 October 1915. Born Thorndon, Suffolk, enlisted Norwich, Norfolk. He joined up from Blo Norton Parish and is commemorated there but is also commemorated on Kenninghall Roll of Honour by special request. Husband of Eleanor Elizabeth (nee Emms) Wells, married July to September 1909 in Thetford Registration District, Norfolk. Brother of Frederick William Wells (below). In the 1911 census he was aged 21, born Thorndon, Suffolk, married to Eleanor Elizabeth Wells, a Farm Labourer, resident Lopham Road, Blo Norton, Norfolk. No known grave. Commemorated on LOOS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 30 and 31. Also commemorated on his father's grave in St. Andrew's Churchyard, South Lopham.

Gunner 19895, 111th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died 20 June 1917. Aged 30. Son of Frederick William and O. E. Wells, of East Church St., Kenninghall, Attleborough, Norfolk; brother of Cecil John Wells (above). Buried in VOORMEZEELE ENCLOSURE NO.3, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot XIII. Row D. Grave 15. Also commemorated on his father's grave in St. Andrew's Churchyard, South Lopham.
WILLIAMS Harry James
Corporal 5171, 12th Lancers (Prince of Wales Royal). Died of wounds 15 April 1917. Born Battersea, Middlesex, resident Kenninghall, enlisted Bury St. Edmunds. In the 1911 census he was the grandson of Elizabeth Turner (a widow), aged 18, born Battersea, London, a Farm Labourer, resident The Street, Croxton, Norfolk. WILSON William Thomas
Private 25666, 3rd Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Died at sea 30 December 1917. Born London, enlisted Attleborough, Norfolk. In the 1911 census he was aged 25, born Lambeth, London, a Watchmaker and Jeweller, son of Leonard and Elvira Mary Wilson, resident White Horse Street, Kenninghall, Norfolk. In the 1915 Electoral Roll for Kenninghall, he was resident at the Market Place. No known grave. Commemorated on CHATBY MEMORIAL, Egypt.
WITHAM Henry John
Private 30320, 8th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Killed in action 11 August 1917. Born 1 November 1885 in Kenninghall, Norfolk, enlisted Attleborough, Norfolk. Baptised 13 February 1886 in Kenninghall, Norfolk, son of John Humphrey and Mary Jane Witham. In the 1911 census he was aged 25, born Kenninghall, Norfolk, a Farmer's Son working on farm, son of John Humphrey Witham and Mary Jane Witham, resident Edge Green, Kenninghall, Norfolk. Stoker 1st Class C/KX 85783, H.M.S. Grenade, Royal Navy. Died of wounds at sea 30 May 1940 after H.M.S. Grenade was caught in Dunkirk harbour by German Stukas and was hit by two bombs which set the ship afire. Aged 24. Born 12 February 1916 in Henstead, Norfolk. Baptised 26 March 1916 in East Carleton, Norfolk. Son of Sydney Robert Cunningham and Dora Cunningham, of Heath Road, Kenninghall. Buried in KENNINGHALL (ST. MARY) CHURCHYARD, Norfolk.

Gunner 1591862, 10 Maritime Battery, Royal Artillery. Presumed killed in action at sea 29 June 1944. Aged 29. Born and resident Kenninghall, Norfolk. In the 1939 Register he was born 8 April 1915, son of Henry B and Emma J Collings, a General Labourer Brick, resident Banham Road, Kenninghall, Wayland R.D., Norfolk. No known grave. ROLFE Stanley Clifton St Swithin
[Listed as S G St S ROLFE on memorial] Aircraftman 2nd Class 539361, 912 Balloon Squadron, Royal Air Force. Died 16 November 1939. Aged 22. Native of Kenninghall, Norfolk. Son of Clifton G. Rolfe and May Rolfe, of Kenninghall. Based in Birmingham. Buried in KENNINGHALL (ST. MARY) CHURCHYARD, Norfolk.
RINGER Edward Henry
[Memorial list him as L/Cpl] Private 5776248, 6th Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment. Died as the result of an accident 18 February 1941. Born Norfolk, resident Norwich. In the 1921 census he was aged 2, born Kenninghall, Norfolk, son of Thomas Henry and Alice Ringer, resident Kenninghall, Attleborough Norfolk. Buried in KENNINGHALL (ST. MARY) CHURCHYARD, Norfolk.
TAYLOR George Harold

TRUDGILL Ernest

Private 5773716, Royal Norfolk Regiment. Died on war service in the United Kingdom 7 March 1946. Aged 26. Born 22 April 1919. Baptised 15 June 1919 in Tibenham, Norfolk. Son of Edward and Minnie Trudgill, of Kenninghall. In the 1921 census he was aged 2, born Tibenham, Norfolk, son of Edward and Minnie Trudgill, resident Tivetshall, Tibenham, Norfolk. In the 1939 Register he was born 22 April 1919, a Stock feeder on Farm, son of Edward and Minnie Trudgill, resident The Place, New Buckenham, Wayland R.D., Norfolk. His brother Ronald also died on service (see below). Buried in KENNINGHALL (ST. MARY) CHURCHYARD, Norfolk.

Leading Aircraftman 1335257, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Died on service in hospital in Cairo 26 January 1945. Aged 20. Born 5 April 1924. Baptised 31 August 1924 in Tibenham, Norwich, Norfolk. Son of Edward and Minnie Trudgill, of Kenninghall, Norfolk. Based at Nicosia, Cyprus. Native of Kenninghall, Norfolk. In the 1939 Register he was born 5 April 1823, a Farm Labourer Heavy Work, son of Edward and Minnie Trudgill, resident The Place, New Buckenham, Wayland R.D., Norfolk. His brother Ernest also died on service (see above). Buried in NICOSIA WAR CEMETERY, Cyprus. Plot 4. Row B. Grave 1.
