Welney is listed as being 10 miles south-west of Downham Market; it is a village and extensive parish lying in the cultivated fens of the Great Bedford level, and like Upwell and Outwell, it lies on both sides of the Welney or Croft river, and over time has partly lain in Norfolk and Cambridgeshire. It is currently determined as lying in Norfolk. The memorial for World War I takes the form of a light marble coloured plaque mounted on a grey marble back plate within the church of St Mary's. There are 22 names listed. The Second World War memorial takes the form of stone tablet within the church of St Mary's. There are 7 names listed.
