No further information currently, his forename was Archibald but the only record found in SDGW and CWGC is Battery Quartermaster Sergeant 12633, 12th Battery, Royal Field Artillery. Killed in action 23-10-14. Born and enlisted Hastings. Commmeorated on Ypres (Menin Gate) Mmeorial. Panel 5 and 9.

Private, 678171, 2nd Battalion, Canadian Mounted Rifles. Died 11-02-19, aged 51. Born King’s Cliffe 19-10-1867, enlisted Toronto, Canada, 25-01-16. Son of Edward and Sarah Goodliffe Edgson, King’s Cliffe, Northants. Buried in King’s Cliffe (All Saints) Churchyard, Northants, North of Church. Inscription reads "Arnold Goodliffe Edgson, who died at Bramshott Canadian Camp February 11th 1919, aged 51 years."

LATIMORE Albert [Edward]
Son of John and Siberania Lattimore [sic], who served in the 2nd Northants and was killed in action on May 9th 1915. No record found on CWGC or SDGW.
LATIMORE Frederick
[Listed as E LATIMORE on the memorial and as LATTIMORE on SDGW] Private 4180, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). Killed in action 03-05-17. Born King's Cliffe, enlisted Peterborough. Formerly 14874, Northamptonshire Regiment. No Trace CWGC. Albert Edward had a brother called Frederick who also served in the war and this was mentioned in local newspaper account of the death of Albert Edward. Clearly, his initial would not be E, and the census return for 1901 shows no other Lattimore brother with that initial. There is no other information locally about Frederick’s Regiment or when and where he was killed, and neither brother shows up on the CWGC under either Latimore or Lattimore.

MILES [Thomas] Reginald
Private, 1871, 4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action Hulluch 13-10-15. Born and resident King’s Cliffe, enlisted Stamford. Son of Ellen Lyman (formerly Miles), Park Street, King's Cliffe, and the late Thomas Miles. Commemorated on Loos Memorial, Panels 31/34.
POWELL Townsend George

Captain, 3rd Battalion attached 2nd Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. Killed in action Aubers Ridge 09-05-15. Commemorated on Ploegsteert Memorial, Panel 07.

Note: It was as a result of his loss that King’s Clilffe has a Memorial Hall. Immediately following the Armistice in 1918, his brother, the then owner of the Manor House in West Street, King’s Cliffe, offered a former maltings building to the village to be used as a ‘parish room’ in memory of his late brother and the other men of King’s Cliffe who had been lost in the war. Subscriptions were raised in the village to cover the cost of converting the building to a hall and it is still in use today.

SHRIVE John Bernard
Private 42209, 25th Battalion, Royal Engineers. Son of William and Jane Shrive of West Street, King’s Cliffe. Killed in action 18th October 1917 at Nyangao, East Africa. Commemorated in Dar Es Salaam War Cemetery, Tanzania.
SMITH Ernest

Private 10336, 6th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. Died from intestinal catarrh 23-06-18 as a prisoner at Limburg Camp. Aged 20. Born King's Cliffe, enlisted Peterborough. Son of John and Elizabeth Smith of Park Street, King’s Cliffe. *** No record found on CWGC ***

Note: Newspaper report from 13th November 1918 says: ‘Died a prisoner. We regret to way that Private Ernest Smith has died from intestinal catarrh. He was a prisoner at Limburg Camp, and was 20 years of age.’ The parish census return for 1901 includes Ernest, aged 3.

STANGER Frank
Mentioned in the local newspaper of 20th March 1918 as one of three King’s Cliffe men ‘honourably discharged as being unfit for further service’. There is no subsequent report of his death, but we have a Frank Stanger of Park Street buried in King’s Cliffe cemetery on 29th March 1919, aged 31. *** No Trace CWGC *** National Archives list three entries for Frank STANGER, Private 138242, Royal Army Medical Corps, Private 6793, London Regiment and Private 446, Lincolnshire Regiment.

Believed to be: Private, 40562, 10th (Grimsby Chums) Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action Roeux 28-04-17. Born and enlisted Leicester. Buried in Roeux British Cemetery, Grave A.04.
