Lest We Forget
British Legion
The Royal British Legion

These sites have either been listed as an overview or specific memorials transcribed. To transcribe the thousands buried in cemeteries such as Karanji or Cassino is beyond our means but we can at least give you a glimpse of some of these.

Please Note: Every attempt has been made to transcribe this information accurately but there are occasions that the information supplied is incorrect or errors occur during transcription. We do not wish to cause offence to any families of the men detailed here and will change the relevant information when informed.

Also note that places detailed on these memorials may appear in the wrong county. This information has been transcribed from the records given and, as the men were parochial, the information supplied at enlistment was the view of the men and the county they thought they resided in.

Commonweath War Graves Commission
Commonwealth War Graves Commission

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is reponsible for looking after the graves of soldiers who died during World War 1 and 2. They do more besides but this is their main responsibility. They are a charity and as such need funds, please support them.

They have supplied, on-line, a database of those who died during the two World Wars. This is searchable and if you are searching for someone is well worth using. There are also records on-line for the National Archives of Canada - many men from the United Kingdom emigrated but still fought for the Canadians, again this database is searchable and also an Australian Roll of Honour database covering the Boer, First and Second World Wars.

UN War Cemetery _ British Graves DatabaseThe British Emabssy in Korea has a list war graves in a database for those men buried in the UN War Cemetery from Britain killed during the Korean conflict.

The Second World War and the islands of New Guinea

Often neglected in the media's commemoration calendar and little known beyond those directly affected, this web site commemorates the Second World War in the islands of New Guinea and the impact it has had on many lives.

The Lost Lives site aims to make information about the people and events in New Britain and New Ireland before, during and after Japanese occupation, readily available to a wide range of researchers in order to raise the profile of this area and theatre of war.

See the LOST LIVES website.

The Far East was captured in a dramatic attempt by Japan to seize its wealth of natural resources, the captured men, woman and children had to endure nearly four years of Japanese oppression.

The prisoners lived their captivity as an endless nightmare and with no hope many died of despair.

The fortunate to awaken from their ordeal were never the same again. The nightmares returned to haunt their sleep and the faces of those left behind have never left them.

Researching their ordeal to find answers has led many of us to experience their torment, we will never feel the pain they endured and fortunately we can awaken from the despair that became their living hell.
