Walpole was an Admiralty V & W Class Destroyer, pennat D41,
built by Doxford Shipyard (Sunderland). Laid down in May 1917,
launched 12th February 1918, commission 6th January 1918. After
an active role in World War 2 she was heavily damaged by a mine
off Flushing, the Netherlands, 6 January 1945, with two of the
crew being killed. She was taken back to Kent where she was declared
a constructive total loss not worth repairing and sold to be broken
up for scrap on 8th February 1945. |
