The Bacton War Memorial sits in the grounds of St Mary's Church, Bacton, is in the form of a Cletic Cross mounted on a shaft atop a plinth with a one-stepped base all made from Aberdeen granite. There is an inscription on the face of the cross, names for World War 2 on the shaft of the cross and the World War 1 insxcription on the plinth with the names on either side of the plinth. There are nineteen names for World War 1 and eight for World War 2. The memorial was dedicated by local clergy and unveiled by Captain Owen Clarke 24 October 1920; the builders were Hanchets. Details appeared about the memorial in the Bury and Norwich Post 29 October 1920.

AUSTIN George
Private Deal/11665(S) George Austin was born in c1871. He enlisted in the Royal Marine Labour Corps. He served in France & Flanders and died on 1st September 1917 aged 46. He is buried at Calais Southern Cemetery Plot H. Row 3. Grave 17 and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of George and Charlotte Austin, of Bacton, Stowmarket, Suffolk; husband of Mary Ann Miles Austin, of 770, Romford Road, Manor Park, Essex. He served 13 years as a Gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery, and in the South African Campaign.
BAKER Spencer Horace
Private 17794 Spencer Horace Baker was born in Bacton c1894. He enlisted in the 9th Suffolk Regiment in Bury St Edmunds. He served in France & Flanders and was killed in action on 2nd October 1915 aged 21. He is remembered on the Loos Memorial Panel 37 & 38 and on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of Mr. S. Baker, of Lodge Farm, Bacton.
BETTS William
Private 5245 William Betts was born in c1891. He enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He served at Home and died on 3rd August 1919 aged 28. He is buried at Bacton St Mary Churchyard and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of Freeman and Mary Ann Betts, of Bacton.
BUCKINGHAM John Lewis
Private 19483 John Lewis Buckingham was born in Bacton c1889. He originally enlisted as 25379 in the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in Thirsk, Yorkshire, later transferring to the 2nd Leicestershire Regiment. He served in Mesopotamia and was killed in action on 8th March 1916 aged 27. He is remembered on the Basra Memorial Panel 12 and on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of John Lewis Buckingham, of Malting House, Bacton.
BUCKINGHAM William
Private G/88900 William Buckingham was born in Bacton c1899. He enlisted in the The Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment in Bury St Edmunds but was posted to the 1st/24th London Regiment. He served in France & Flanders and was killed in action on 29th May 1918 aged 19. He is remembered on the Pozieres Memorial Panel 14 &15 and on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of Mr. J. L. Buckingham, of The Street, Bacton.
CAGE Edward J
Private 30123 Edward J Cage was born in Bacton c1899. He enlisted in the 7th The Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment in Bury St Edmunds. He served in Home and died of wounds on 10th October 1918 aged 19. He is buried at Bacton St Mary Churchyard and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the Son of James Cage, of Earls Green, Bacton.
CASTELL Edwin Alfred
Gunner 178313 Edwin Alfred Castell was born in Bacton c1886. He enlisted in the Royal Garrison Artillery Labour Corps in Derby. He served at Home and died on 29th October 1918 aged 32. He is buried at Bacton St Mary Churchyard and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the Husband of H. F. Dorking (formerly Castell), of Church Cottage, Bacton.
CULLEY Stanley William
Corporal 17006 Stanley William Culley was born in Elsing Norfolk c1887. He enlisted in the 1st Suffolk Regiment in Stowmarket. He served in France & Flanders and died of wounds on 1st September 1915 aged 28. He is buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord) Grave II. A. 47 and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of John William Culley, of Elsing, Dereham, Norfolk; husband of Lily Culley, of The Grapes, Bacton.
EASTELL William
Private 20529 William Eastell was born in Bacton. He enlisted in the 7th Suffolk Regiment in Walthamstow. He served in France & Flanders and was killed in action on 5th March 1916. He is buried at Vermelles British Cemetery Grave II. G. 8 and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial.
FARROW Frederick
Private 29568 Frederick Farrow was born in Finningham. He enlisted in the 23rd Royal Fusiliers City of London Battalion in Bury St Edmunds. He served in France & Flanders and died of wounds on 21st February 1917. He is buried at St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen Grave O. VI. F. 15 and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial. He was a resident of Stowmarket.
FOWLES John Freeman (Jack)
Private 6130586 John Freeman (Jack) Fowles was born in London c1895. He originally enlisted as 29524 in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps in London, later transferring to the 6th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He served in Palestine and was killed in action on 27th December 1917 aged 22. He is buried at Jerusalem War Cemetery Grave F33 and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the only son of Charles and Katie Laura Fowls, of Bay Cottage, Cotton, and a native of Bacton.
FULLER Henry John
Gunner 97957 Henry John Fuller was born in Bacton. He enlisted in the Royal Horse Field Artillery in Bury St Edmunds. He served in Malta and died on 13th December 1915. He is buried at Pieta Military Cemetery Grave C.I.5 and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial.
JAMES John
Private 13252 John James was born in c1888. He enlisted in the Machine Gun Corps Infantry. He served at Home and died on 14th February 1919 aged 31. He is buried at Bacton St Mary Churchyard and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of George and Dorcas James, of Bacton.
MARSH Alec Woodward
2nd Lieutenant Alec Woodward Marsh originally enlisted as Gunner 225313 in the Royal Field Artillery, being promoted on 25th March 1918. He served in France & Flanders from 21st June 1918 and died at home on 3rd November 1920. He is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial.
NUNN John Robert
Private 3967 John Robert Nunn was born in Bacton c1898. He originally enlisted as 9629 in the Suffolk Regiment in Stowmarket, later transferring to the Machine Gun Corps 53rd Company. He served in France & Flanders and was killed in action on 23rd October 1917 aged 19. He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial Panel 154 to 159 & 163A and on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of Robert Nunn, of Topcroft Farm, Westhrope, Stowmarket, Suffolk.
PEARCE George A
Private 14861 George A. Pearce was born in Gislingham c1895. He enlisted in the 4th Suffolk Regiment "A" Comapany in Stowmarket. He served in France & Flanders and was killed in action on 6th July 1918 aged 23. He is buried at Contay British Cemetery, Contay Grave IX. A. 17 and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of John and Sarah Pearce, of Bacton.
SHAVE Samuel
Private 47218 Samuel Shave was born in Bacton. He enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps 38th Field Ambulance in Stowmarket. He served in France & Flanders and died of wounds on 9th January 1916. He is buried at Bethune Town Cemetery Grave IV. H. 15 and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial.
WELHAM Stanley James
Private Stanley James Welham was born in c1899. He enlisted in the Essex Regiment. He served in Home and died on 8th March 1921 aged 21. He is buried at Bacton St Mary Churchyard and is remembered on the Bacton War Memorial. He was the husband of Alice May Welham, of "Ryedene," Feering, Kelvedon, Essex.
WOODS Richard
Private 22233 Richard Woods was born in Wetheringsett. He enlisted in the 2nd Suffolk Regiment in Stowmarket. He served in France & Flanders and was killed in action on 20th July 1916. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial Pier & Face 1C & 2A and on the Bacton War Memorial.

CLARKE Norman
Private 14675663 Norman Clarke served in the 1st Dorsetshire Regiment. He died on 19th June 1944 aged 18. He is buried at Tilly-Sur-Seulles War Cemetery Grave XI. G. 6 and is remembered on Bacton War Memorial. He was the Son of Thurston Owen Clarke and Bessie Edith Clarke, of Bacton.
ELMER Sidney
Gunner 800423 Sidney Charles Arthur Elmer served in the Royal Artillery 293 Battery, 95 A.A. Regiment. He died on 18th May 1940 aged 28. He is buried at Bacton Cemetery Section B. Grave 84 and is remembered on Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of Thomas William and Mary Louise Elmer.
HARVEY Donald
Donald Harvey is remembered on Bacton War Memorial. No further information is currently available.
KERRIDGE Claude
Steward C/LX 25095 Claude William Kerridge served in the Royal Navy on H.M.S. Cyclops. He died on 18th September 1945 aged 25. He is buried at Bacton Cemetery Section A. Grave 24 and is remembered on Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of Richard Kerridge, and of Caroline Kerridge, of Bacton.
LUCKWORTH Donald
Corporal 5828711 Donald William Lockwood served in the 5th Suffolk Regiment. He died on 10th September 1944 aged 24. He is remembered on the Singapore Memorial Column 53 and on Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Lockwood, of Bacton.
MOSS Ronald
Gunner 1766373 Ronald Arthur Moss was born in London c1907. He served in the Royal Artillery 3 Battery, 6 H.A.A. Regiment. He died between 13/02/1942 and 15/02/1942 aged 35. He is buried at Kranji War Cemetery Special Memorial 14. E. 7 and is remembered on Bacton War Memorial.
OSBORNE Alfred
Private 14695383 Alfred Osborne served in the 5th Dorsetshire Regiment. He died on 25th September 1944 aged 20. He is buried at Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery Grave 8. A. 6 and is remembered on Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of Frank and Ethel Mary Osborne, of Bacton.
QUINTON Howard
Fusilier 14577053 Edward James Quinton served in the 8th Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). He died on 18th February 1944 aged 19. He is buried at Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio Grave XVIII. H. 6 and is remembered on Bacton War Memorial. He was the son of Charles Edward and Ruby May Quinton, of Bacton.
