The memorial consists of a single stone with a dedication and no names. The names are listed on a plaque in the parish church for World War 1 and 2. The Memorial Plaque was dedicated by the Rev Richard Titford on 4 March 2001.

20126 Private, 9/West Yorks. Regt., (Prince of Wale's Own) (formerly 24364 12/Reserve Cavalry Regt.). Killed in action 9 November 1915, aged 39. Born Groton. Enlisted Colchester. Son of Peter Gant of The Heath, Alresford, Colchester. Husband of Annie Cant, 3 Love Lane, Brightlingsea, Essex. No known grave. Remembered on the Helles Memorial, Turkey, Panel 47/51.

Son of Johnson William Mann of Ramsey, nr Harwich, Essex; husband of Mrs Mann of Groton St., nr Boxford, Suffolk. Buried at Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, France, Plot IV, Row E Grave 65.

Flight Lieutenant (Pilot/Nav.) 33121, Royal Air Force, Date of death 25 February 1941, age 26. Son of Frederick Percy and Phoebe Margaret Manson of Boxford. Buried in Groton (St Bartholomew) churchyard.

T/177967 Driver, Royal Army Service Corps, Date of death 16 April 1941. Husband of W Herbert of Shimpling. Buried in Shimplingthorne (St George) Churchyard.


Chaplain the Rev. BA (Cantab), HMS Gloucester, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Drowned 22 May 1941, age 29. Son of the Revd. William Henry Bonsey MA and Ernestine Colville Learmonth Bonsey, of Groton. No known grave. Remembered on the Plymouth Memorial Devon. (Memorial plaque in Groton Church)


William Herbert Charles
Captain, Royal Marines. HMS Merlin. Date of death 9 April 1942, age 30. Son of Frederick Percy and Phoebe Margaret Manson of Boxford. Buried in Longside Cemetery, Aberdeenshire.
