Compiled and copyright © Martin Edwards 2024
At
the entrance to All Saints Church, Sussex Lane, Blackham, East Sussex,
is a wooden lychgate with dedication engraved in the arch. There are
13 names for World War 1 and two for World War 2. Within All Saints
Church, Sussex Lane, Blackham, East Sussex, is a hand drawn roll of
honour in coloured ink, mounted in a glazed wooden frame; the roll has
an ornate multi-coloured border with a group of seven flags above the
Royal cypher at the centre top; there are dates at the centre sides
and the Sussex shield in the centre of the lower border. The inscription
is in multi-coloured ink with a green border around ‘Blackham
– Sussex’ and below this are two columns. The names and
service are written in black ink with red initial letters. Any award
is in blue ink, and any casualty is in brown ink with blue initials.
There are 54 names listed for World War 1 only. The names for both memorials
have been merged, those who died are anotated with a .
Where a name appears on the lychgate but not the Roll of Honour then
a note exists, for World War 2 the names only appear on the lychgate.
