FLYING
BOMB HITS COTTAGES
Flying
bombs have been over Southern England again during the
week, and many of them have been destroyed by planes
of Royal Air Force. On Friday, one bomb fell on three
cottages, one of which had been used for many years
as a sub-post office, and completely demolished them.
Five persons, including the sub-postmistress, were killed.
The victims were M. and Mrs. A. Ford, Mr. H. French,
Mrs. F. Tobitt and Mrs. E. Thompsett. On the opposite
side of the road, a public house was severely damaged,
but no one was hurt. Every drinking glass was broken,
but in a short time the landlord and his wife were carrying
on "business as usual," serving beer to the
Civil Defence workers in tea cups.
